# 1 - 🛩️ The FORDEC-Model explained 🧩

I love to build redundant Systems like in Aviation. So if a System fails, there is always a Backup-System which takes over.

This is the core Principle of the Aviation-Industry. This is why flying is the safest Way to commute. And this why we all sit in Planes without Fear. (at least the most of us 🥺)

Because the whole Industry is relaying on Safety and well thought-out Processes, I love to learn from Pilots even in Business Terms. (and my Plan B was always becoming a Pilot 👨‍✈️)

So let’s go… Do you ever heard of the FORDEC-Model?

I promise you, using this right can improve your Problem-Solving-Skills a lot.

Let’s dive in…

FORDEC stands for Facts, Options, Risks, Decision, Execution & Check.

Pilots are using this Framework in Case of an Emergency. If a problematic Situation arises, Pilots start working along this Model to find the best possible Solution.

You recognise “best possible”…

Means, that not every Situation is perfectly solvable in Air. Also not in Business Operations. Sometimes there are Situations which can’t be won.

Then you have to find the “best possible” Solution.

So here a quick Overview of FORDEC:

Start with awareness if you find yourself in a problematic Situation. Then you should start to work the Problem through in the following Order.

Facts: What’s the Situation? What’s the Problem? - Gather all Informations at this Point
Options: Which different Options you can identify? - Collect all possible Ways you could chose at this Point
Risks (& Benefits): Which risks are in every Option involved? Which benefits are involved in every Option? - Gather all Pros & Cons for every Solution
Decision: For which Option will you decide? - Decide and commit for the best possible Option
Execution: Which Steps are involved? Who is doing what? - Make a Plan Step-by-Step
Check: Is the Situation better now? Is this solving the Problem? - In Case the Situation is not solved, start with FORDEC again

Thats it. Problem solved.

I love this. Even an average Team can follow this Step-by-Step-Model to solve their Problems which are coming up. Especially if you can’t be with your Team, (Holidays, Illness) they still can find the best Decision.

But what is his Point here?

If you starting to build a new Internet Company right now, you should rethink old Blueprints in Terms of the new Media Technology out there.

That means SHORTS.

TikTok and YT Shorts are leading the Way if you starting out new. The Social Algos are dying for Short-Content. So feeding this hunger can lead to substantial Success.
