👊 Domi's favourite Things - Issue #22

🍻 Winning Big with Beer out of the Whiskey Lands... 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Read time: 4.10 Minutes

Servus Friends,

last week we had a Special One again with the Europe’s Female Founders Issue. 🇪🇺

This Time we cover one of my favourite Topics: “Beer” 🍻 and how you can beat the Beer-Mafia. (AB InBev, Heineken, Diageo etc.)

We also speak about how you can predict the Success of existing Technologies and Businesses for the Future.

Have fun…

The Things we are digging in Today:

  1. 🍻 How to build a Beer-Unicorn from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

  2. 🔎 Be a better Predictor with the Lindy Effect 🦋

  3. #Twitter-Box: 🔐 Your Cheat-Code to your Competitors digital Marketing Strategy 🚀

# 1 -🍻 Not another Scotch for Scotland… 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I love Beer… Yes I really do. But in Terms of Business, Beer is a hard One.

Why you may ask?

Because Brick & Mortar Companies are unsexy…

Everyone dreams of digital and scalable Startup Ideas, but Someone has to produce all the other Goods we consume during our Life.

Therefore we should also talk about how to produce Hard Things in this Newsletter.

But at least we could do this, with the fun Topic of Beer… 🙃

Meet Brewdog. A 2 Billion € Unicorn from Scotland. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 (I didn’t know Scots can do Beer too, besides 🥃)

Brewdog came up with a great Go-to-Market Strategy. Instead of using old boring Distribution Channels, they invented new One’s.

With a great Offers like Customers as Shareholders, own Venues in nearly every big european City and cool Brand-Stories, they turned to Europe’s biggest Craft-Beer Brand in under 15 Years.

They even turned bigger than other legacy Beer-Brands which are around for several hundred Years. What a Story…

And you can learn a lot from this Story too.

The Youtuber Codie Sanchez (mentioned her in past Issues) had a great Founder Interview with Brewdog Co-Founder James Watt.

This Link includes also a fun Tale of why James switched his Name to Elvis and other crazy Marketing Methods.

Enjoy binging…

My honest opinion about Brewdog? I like the Concept. I like the Style of the Venues. Some of the Beers are even Good. But, I am not the biggest Fan…

A lot of the Beers and the Food are not meeting my Taste. And I had a bad Customer Experience once… A Brewdog Bar didn’t serve Beer anymore after 10:45 PM in Berlin. 🙃 (You need to respect Berlin’s Culture for long Nights…)

But my Opinion doesn’t matter, because the Success of Brewdog speaks for his own… (Here is my alternative Recommendation at least for Berlin → The BRLO Brewhouse)

# 2 - 🔎 Predicting a Butterfly’s Stroke with the Lindy Effect 🦋

We talked a lot about Prediction-Methods lately… Today I bring you the Lindy Effect for further Practice.

But what is this One about?

The Lindy Effect helps you to predict, the Future Life Expectancy of existing Companies & Technologies..

Important: We talking about existing Stuff here!

In general the Idea behind Lindy is, that the older something is, the longer it’s likely to be around in the future.

Sounds crazy, I know. But start to think about Stuff that falls in this category and you will find a lot of Cases.

To give you a better understanding of the Lindy Effect, here is an Article from the world-famous New York Times…

I am a big Fan of this Theory. Because it helps you to put Competitors and existing Technologies into the right Perspective.

In addition, I recommend you to read the first Link in the Favourite-5-Section at the End of this Issue. Jason puts the Lindy Theory more into the Startup-Context for you...

#Twitter-Box: 🔐 Your Cheat-Code to your Competitors digital Marketing Strategy 🚀

Ever curious how your Competition is running their Ads in Social Media? How the Ads look like? And how they run their A/B-Tests?

If YES, then read on the following Twitter-Thread…

Thanks to more and more Initiatives for better Transparency of Big-Tech-Companies, we get Tools which really make a Difference for our advantage.

Ray Johnston is introducing us in his Post to two great Cheat-Codes:

For Google Ads:

For Facebook & Instagram Ads:

Give them a try and find out how other Businesses market their Products and Services in the Web. (I suggested to start with Nike or Unilever…)

This is great Stuff. But use this with the right Mindset. If you need new Ideas for Ads, this is a Way to go. If you want to know your Competitor’s Marketing Strategy, a perfect Source of Truth.

But a little Objection from my Side. Don’t think too much about others. Instead work more on making your Product and Strategy even better…
